     Lovely compilation curated by Network Records (UK) with assistance
     from Hot Productions. Featuring classic early NY dance cuts from
     The bros. Burrell, Kenny Dope, Lenny Dee, DJ Smash and so many
     more.

     Nu Groove was a true original...a house label run with the spirit
     of "The Loft" where new sounds and artists could bloom and
     flourish.  There's nothing we miss more than those days where every
     weekly trip to the local DJ shop carried the promise of one or two
     fresh Nu Groove twelves...whether it was deep house, jazz, techno
     or hip-hop we listened with open ears and hearts.

     To us, these comments from Undagroundarchives.com interview with DJ
     Smash sum it up perfectly:

     "Shortly after, I was introduced to Frank and Karen Mendez who
     started Nu Groove Records - home of Kenny Dope, Bobby Konders,
     Burrell and Peter Daou, etc. Judy Russell of Downtown Distribution
     was working there as well.

     They signed the first thing I gave them, which was a sample record
     with lots of solos (by Peter Daou). It was my first solo project
     and helped ignite my interest working with jazz musicians in a
     collaborative way. Peter really helped me through the world of
     programming and sampling which I was just starting to get a fix on.

     I did four records with Nu Groove and not once did they tell me
     what to put out or to try and sound like anything out there. In
     their view, the more original the track, the better. I think that's
     how producers like Kenny Dope and Bobby Konders were able to come
     off and break new ground because it was an uncensored environment,
     so interesting things came from it. Tracks like "The Poem" or "Make
     a Living" were so unique for their time. There wasn't anything in
     the market like that. From there, I went into remixing and got my
     first with Nu Groove - a hip-house track, which I completely forget
     the name of (any Nu Groove fans out there, feel free to send the
     answer if you know it.)"
