"Beat Diarya (bEEt dy-UH-rEE-UH) is the latest "rap experiment" from
Edmonton producer Jon b. Juggling his time between Toronto and his
hometown for over a year, his mantra has been a continuing mission to
explore strange new rhythms and seek out new esoteric samples to boldly
go where no bedroom superstars have gone before. Or he was just
uninspired by the idea of a traditional remix album/mixtape, so Jon b
resolved to include material that was spastic, odd and unexpected. In
this rap experiment, Jon b includes "warps" of songs--sort of like a
mash-up, but with his own unique interpretations. Many of the songs
include sampled drums as well as sounds from drum machines (the classic
TR-808 is one of his favorites). As a result, warps modify in whole or in
part: the tempo, pitch and cadence of many rap anthems. On top of these
remixes, he also includes a mini-anthology of exclusively Canadian
talent, showcasing some of this country's greatest rappers: Touch (The
Representatives); Wordburglar (Hand'Solo Records); Mindbender (Supreme
Being Unit); Max Prime (Low Budget Affiliates) and Corvid Lorax (Eshod
Ibn Wyza)."
