Release Notes
Near the Parenthesis is the performing name of San Francisco's Tim Arndt. He
creates electronic soundscapes with occasional analog instruments (piano and
guitar) and sampled human voices, as if you're eavesdropping on private phone
conversations. The pieces ebb and flow, progressing from mood to mood, without
precise melodies or recurring chorus elements. "It's Not Even Midnight" (#1)
begins with organ-like electronics with backmasking effects, then the rhythm
track kicks in, the electronic organ brightens, then thickens, and halfway
through we hear some female voices. "Mare Nostrum" (#2) includes a simple
piano pseudo-melody and IDM rhythm track, and a spacey synth bed. "The
Language Explosion" (#3) progresses from bell-like synth chords, squishy
electronics with static, and an uneven rhythm track. "The World Is Inside You
Now" (#5) starts with a man's sampled voice, barely recognizable, backmasked
electronic keyboards, a simple melodic progression, then rhythm track and
bass, with the keys going through several mutations of tone with added
dissonance. "Open Sources" (#6) uses lots of echoing and warped-sounding
modulations against waterfall melodic snippets. "Trailing" (#7) begins with
globular-sounding keyboards but finishes with repeated backmasking & echoing.
"For, From" (#10) features a throbbing, bubbling rhythm track covered by
lullaby keys & later more elongated, trebly synth chords. Each piece is a
gradual, mellow journey, as the title says, of soft construction.
