The third album from the absolute ambient
catalogue is an epic fusion of electronica
and ambient chill from the Brighton based
collective Pan Electric
After two pure ambient releases Matt Coldrick
has ventured more into melody, performance
and groove without losing the tapestries and
colours that defines the absolute ambient
sound.
Conscious Pilot features the exceptional
Rhodes piano talents of Neil Cowley (Green
Nuns, Zero 7, Brand New Heavies, ) giving an
inspired improvisational narrative to the
arrangements.
Lush Beach Boys-esque vocals from Brighton's
Dan Burke and performances from Julie Kench
(Swingle singers) create ethereal, ghostly,
almost nostalgic passages, as though the
radio in the background was tuned to 1967.
The magic dust comes from Pedal steel master,
BJ Cole (The Verve, Sting) whose session
history with major artists is astonishing.
His contribution adds a golden texture that
helps define the unique style of the album.
