Beginnings
Stacy Clark has been writing poetry since age seven. At age fifteen, she bought
her first acoustic guitar and began teaching herself. In 1997, she enrolled in
the internship program at Grand Island High School. After requesting to work in
the record industry, she was placed at Atomic Gardens Recording Studio. She
recorded her first music project at that studio. Her first live performance was
an open mic at Stimulance Coffeehouse in Buffalo, followed the same night by a
performance at an open mic at Nietzsches. She met Buffalo folk legend and
Righteous Babe Records artist Michael Meldrum. It was through him and his
encourangement she learned more about working within the music industry as an
independent musician.
One to stay busy, Stacy balanced high school with soccer, work and an
internship. In 1998 Stacy was diagnosed with a rare blood platlet disorder
called Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The normal blood platlet count
ranges from 100,000 to 300,000. Under 30,000 your body bleeds to death and her
count was at 1,000. Clark received an emergency blood platlet transfusion at
Kenmore Mercy Hospital and remained there for weeks following. Due to this
disorder, she had to quit soccer and receive treatments. After receiving a bone
marrow test confirming it was not cancer, she was treated with an intravenous
infusion. It was because of this disorder that caused Clark to stay local for
her freshman year of college to be close to her doctors and family. She attended
and played soccer at Buffalo State College.
After a year of keeping an eye on her health, Clark participated in the National
Student Exchange program and studied a semester at the University of Hawaii.
Stacy booked her first tour in 1999 around the friends she met while studying in
Hawaii. In 2002, Clark graduated from the State University of New York at
Plattsburgh where she studied Art and enjoyed snowboarding. Stacy spent the next
two years working in marketing while performing at seasonal jobs in both Vermont
and New York.
Early Career
After moving to Orange County, California in 2004, Stacy met manager Russel
Hornbeek. Clark is the official spokesperson of the Music Saves Lives, a program
she contributed to help start. Stacy speaks to students about the importance of
donating blood. Her advertising partnership with friend Chelsea Davis, Chelstay
(www.chelstay.com) donates all of the design and marketing for the program.
In 2005, Clark worked on her artist development with Loren Israel. She recorded
with Ian Kirkpatrick of ZenSeven Studios to create the EP Unusual. Clark was a
"featured artist" on MTV Hits, and her songs have been featured on the Music
Saves Lives 2006/2007 Vans Warped Tour compilations. Clark songs can also be
heard on a Airport Records compilation - a label owned by Andrew McMahon.
In 2007, Clarks songs "You Make It Worse" and "Unusual" have been featured on
MTV's hit series engaged and underaged. Stacy also appeared as a co-host on 'The
Big Ten' on the MTV network.
