Release Notes:
Sortie RΘal is a four piece instrumental music
group. It's difficult to describe the music they
play, you just have to go see them for yourselves.
Sortie RΘal grew from the basement of Jeff's house
in the winter of '05-'06. Dave (guitar), Jeff
(drums, percussion and orchestral bell) and Signe
(bass clarinet) were given the opportunity to open
for A Northern Chorus in April '06. The three
quickly began writing material that would
complement the night's aesthetic.
The show went off without a hitch and Sortie RΘal
was invited to play many more gigs in the months
that followed.
Sortie RΘal has played shows with A Northern
Chorus, The Hylozoists, They Shoot Horses Don't
They, The Absent Sound, Mahogany Frog, Sharp Like
Knives, Rebekah Higgs, the Fo!ps, Caledonia, Mr.
Pine, Cantor Dust, Kram Ran, All of Your Friends
and more.
They have also played at such festivals as
InFringe, Shine Thru Rain, Islendingadagurinn
(Gimil Icelandic Festival) for their Jazz on the
Rooftop series, and were also a part of the Theatre
by the River production of 'Book of Changes'
providing intro, outro and scene transition music.
In 2006 they played over 30 shows alone!
In Septmeber '06 Pat Short joined Team Sortie on
bass guitar and they haven't looked back since.
Sortie RΘal recorded their first full length album
the following winter (which they hope to release
sometime in '07) and a 3 song EP followed shortly
which is available now at live shows.
