With musical credentials that most producers would kill for, the organic
Breakbeat mastermind that is ILS really does not need an introduction! With
early 12ö releases on groundbreaking labels such as Good Looking Records and Mo
Wax, ILS had his foot firmly lodged in the musical door from the off. Long
Players on the pioneering Fuel Records (æIdiots Behind The WheelÆ) and
BrightonÆs number one imprint Marine Parade (æSoul TraderÆ) led the path to his
recent æBohemiaÆ album on Distinctive. Which brings us to today...
For his new album æParanoid ProphetsÆ ILS has reshaped his sound once again,
drawing influence from right across the musical board. Soaked with his trademark
choppy organic drums and low-end bass tones æParaniod ProphetsÆ seeÆs ILS push
his sound to a whole new level.
æHate Is An Illness (get well soon)Æ lights the fuse, a lower tempo affair
featuring vocals from Thalia and Vanessa Smith drifting over in a haze.
æEverybody Needs A ShrinkÆ lifts the lid on PandoraÆs box, tapping into the
darker corners of the mind, leading us down the Breakbeat path... Next up
æBroken HomesÆ unleashes itself before vocals from Valkyrie soothe on æHope And
TortureÆ. Taking a turn to the darker side, æNo Money on TreesÆ haunts the soul
with hypnotic strings and constricting verbs from Wonda. Dropping the vibes
down, æSleeping VillageÆ shows the musical diversity of ILS. æBurn AgainÆ clips
at the heels and commands your attention, with æAlwaysÆ to round off the album,
featuring the heavenly tones of Keatz, to send you gracefully into the night...
