| | This 4 track EP is a collection of collisions | |
| | between Noisia and 3 of their favourite | |
| | sparring partners: Phace, The Upbeats and | |
| | Black Sun Empire. | |
| | | |
| | The first track, "Cannonball" starts off with | |
| | a chopped up 2 minute drumsolo, leading into | |
| | the commanding voice of Will Ferrell | |
| | announcing the drop with the characteristic | |
| | misplaced triplet bass hit by shouting | |
| | 'Cannonball' in a high-pitched whine. After a | |
| | thorough drum n bass workout in the office, | |
| | Noisia and Phace bring the guns (jack&tom) | |
| | back to comedy in the best outro for a tune | |
| | ever (it's science). Discovered by the | |
| | Germans in 1904, they first named this outro | |
| | San Diago, which of course in German means 'A | |
| | Whale's Vagina'. | |
| | | |
| | The second tune on the EP is the result of | |
| | BSE and Noisia trying their hands at minimal | |
| | electro house. After writing a Stephan | |
| | Bodzin-inspired minimal track, they decided | |
| | to use all the tricks they used in the 128 | |
| | bpm experiment for a drum and bass tune. Out | |
| | came an infusion obtained by putting minimal | |
| | in drum and bass, and putting BSE in the | |
| | Noisia studio. It might be the most | |
| | atmospheric and melodic track on the EP, | |
| | dancefloors go wild on it nonetheless! | |
| | | |
| | Mudslide, a collaboration with The Upbeats, | |
| | is the ADD child on a sugar high in the | |
| | Vision 005 family. The drum patterns change | |
| | every 16 bars after it's dropped, and the | |
| | bass also appears in many guises throughout | |
| | the progression of the track. This track is a | |
| | personal favourite of Noisia, because of the | |
| | wonderful atmospherics in the intro and outro | |
| | ('how the fuck have we come up with a sound | |
| | that nice?!'), the intricate rhythms of drum | |
| | 'n bass in all the shapes and sizes they come | |
| | in, and the big big cowbell leading into the | |
| | second drop. More cowbell! | |
| | | |
| | The last track on the EP, "Levitation" is | |
| | written with Phace. Always when Noisia and | |
| | Phace get together in the studio, things just | |
| | start to lose weight and tunes just come | |
| | floating into the room, gravity all nonsense | |
| | now. As the crazy woman in the outro says: | |
| | "The further we're removed from the central | |
| | source, the more weird, mysterious, | |
| | complicated and incomprehensible does Mother | |
| | Nature appear to the finite human mind. And | |
| | this is..." Firmly rooted on a steady 2-step | |
| | beat, Noisia and Phace indulge in their | |
| | obsession with science fiction and strange | |
| | dirty sounds, occasionally pausing the | |
| | nastiness for slapping their lederhosen in | |
| | time to the song (the 4/4 clapping sound | |
| | introducing the breakdown is a recording of | |
| | them slapping their legs in the studio, the | |
| | spontaneous native indian song they burst out | |
| | just after this has been trimmed off to save | |
| | your precious hearing). | |
