Elmore Judd has emerged in the spotlight with his self produced
solo album Angel Sound first released by Rawdog and later by Above
the Clouds Recordings. He was nominated for the Gilles Peterson
BBC Radio 1 World Wide Album of the Year Award 2004 and played
live in session with his band on the show.
The Elmore Judd live act which grew out of the album has been
described as 'every bit as wonderfully twisted, unpigeonholable
and bizarre as the album ..a band with balls à.big onesà.'.
Judd also plays keys in the RAWDOG live band and has collaborated
with Slipperz in the production of Bareback Instrumentals and the
ú10 Bag Vols 1, 2 & 3 albums as well as with TASK FORCE on two
EP's: Arrest the President (Lowlife Records) and You're not Us
(Music from the corner).
Elmore Judd's debut album, hotly tipped by Gilles Peterson, has a
unique style that combines jazz, soul, punk and electronic hip-
hop. 'Judd World' is a dark and schizoid place. From instrumental
cuts that fuse clipped electronics with sparse drum programming,
to electro vocal psychedelia via punk-funk rock-out interludes -
Angel Sound is indefinable.
The album has been promoted by Annie Mac, 1Xtra, XFM, Kiss FM ,
Jazz FM and other pirate / internet radio stations. It has had
reviews in national magazines including MOJO, Straight No Chaser,
Knowledge, Undercover and PIMP magazines and was the favourite of
Rio Ferdinand in Observer Music Monthly.
