This is part of a special set of releases for DPS' seventh
birthday, and we hope lovers of both classical music and
scandalous copyright infringement will appreciate it! No,
the irony is not lost on us at all...
To summarise, these recordings are not by Joyce Hatto; they are
recordings by other pianists 'remixed' by her husband and sold
under her name. It is not clear if Hatto, really only a
second-rate piano teacher, was privy to the fraud. Regardless,
it is likely that these recordings will not be available in
this fraudulent format for long, so these releases are meant to
serve an archival interest.

There are two significantly different versions of this CD,
published in 2003 and 2005 respectively, that use different
performances for some of the tracks. On the 2003 release the Op.
49 Sonatas are taken from the O'Conor recordings whereas the 2005
release does not use O'Conor for the Op. 49 Sonatas. The 2005
release uses O'Conor's Appassionata, but the 2003 release uses
someone else's Appassionata. The Waldstein Sonata is the most
bizarre example of all. The 2005 releases uses O'Conor for all
three movements of the Waldstein, however, the 2003 release
uses O'Conor for the first two movements but has a finale that has
been put together from more than one recording. The finale's
opening 101 measures (until 12 measures before the main theme
returns after the first long episode) and the last 144 measures
(from two measures before the start of the coda) do not use the
O'Conor recording.
The 2005 version introduces some minor time stretching on a few
movements There is a third version of this CD (published in 2006)
that improves the sound quality and has slight changes in track
placement., but is identical to the 2005 release in all other
aspects.
