|   |  MARTIN DAMM has been one of the most prolific and versatile        |   |
|   |  electronic musicians since he started producing in 1990. Since     |   |
|   |  then, his numerous projects have appeared on more than 200         |   |
|   |  releases on labels as diverse as Mille Plateaux, Monotone and      |   |
|   |  Force Inc. While he probably gained the most recognition as        |   |
|   |  SPEEDFREAK with his work in the fields of hardcore and gabba, his  |   |
|   |  most personal project remains BIOCHIP C. Flirting with the darker  |   |
|   |  undercurrents of crunchy electro and tweaked 4/4, '2001'           |   |
|   |  represents the finest kind of afterhours warehouse music cross     |   |
|   |  fertilised with a cinematic wash of dark strings and layers of     |   |
|   |  atmosphere. The production here is superb, 'Sunblocking' tweaks    |   |
|   |  into existence with a heavy acid punch and an orchestral           |   |
|   |  melancholy....the beats quantized just the right side of hard.     |   |
|   |  BIOCHIP C veers off in multiple uncharted directions while always  |   |
|   |  clinging to a foothold in abandoned futures. 'Still On A Mission'  |   |
|   |  twists the vocal into a dark vocoded mass that reminds us of TEAM  |   |
|   |  DOYOBIÆs integration of treated vocals into the percussive         |   |
|   |  make-up of tracks. The Hip Hop element here is crushing û treated  |   |
|   |  stretches of scratch, even utilising the same LAST POETS vocal     |   |
|   |  sample that was featured on M.A.R.R.S.Æ 'Pump Up The Volume'. If   |   |
|   |  you like your beats abstracted û at times tweaked into acid, at    |   |
|   |  times nodding towards DSP Hip Hop, and at times just intricate     |   |
|   |  and complex, this is an album that will mess with your             |   |
|   |  preconceptions at home and on the dancefloor with equal success.   |   |
