Husband and wife led Japanese avant pop act Tenniscoats sprung
to our attention a few weeks ago with the utterly wonderful
'Totemo Aimasho', and now we've managed to get copies of this
killer collection of live work from the band. They might only
be a duo, but wherever Tenniscoats go they manage to attract a
handful of collaborators who flesh out the collective into a
fully functioning live band, often attracting some very
interesting names. This disc was recorded in Japan between
2002 and 2005 and features members of Acid Mothers Temple,
Ghost, Maher Shalal Hash Baz and Stars among others which adds
wonderfully to the group's unbeatable concoction of abstract
Japanese folk-pop. For live recordings these tracks are
surprisingly high-fidelity but what makes 'The Wanderus' such
an important purchase is that many of these tracks only exist
in this one-off format. Given the nature of the band their
live shows are often very heavily improvised and
never-to-be-repeated, so if you want to hear Acid Mothers'
frontman Kawabato Makota jamming with the band, exploring his
typically psychedelic guitar sound on 'So Simple', 'Ball Men'
and 'The Ending Theme', or Boris collaborator Michio Kurihawa
adding his signature to 'My Car is Burning' then this is the
only chance you'll get. An incredible selection of work from
one of the most interesting acts to come out of Japan for a
while, fans of 'Totemo Aimasho' should check this out without
     delay.
