dXb Troy Pierce continues his mission up river into the dXb
dXb heart of darkness, with arguably his most dXb
dXb accomplished collection of tracks to date. Made up of dXb
dXb music composed almost exclusively on the road, the dXb
dXb "Gone Astray EP" is driven by choices and ideas that dXb
dXb would not normally have surfaced in a typical studio dXb
dXb environment. It's an innovative, ambitious project, dXb
dXb not least because it tackles so many abstract themes dXb
dXb in one sitting, often taking more than one mix to dXb
dXb fully explore the hidden pathways that disappear off dXb
dXb into this dense catacomb of sound. dXb
dXb dXb
dXb "Even If It's Alone (Black Acid)' is a good case in dXb
dXb point. The original version is abstract, freeform dXb
dXb techno full of disorientating bleeps, metallic snare dXb
dXb rolls and messed up vocal overdubs that offer the dXb
dXb listener little in the way of a safety net. The dXb
dXb Louderbach remix however is an altogether different dXb
dXb trip. Sparser and pinned down by a mechanical dXb
dXb hihat/snare pattern, it utilizes spaced out delays dXb
dXb and reverbs to create an equally intense atmosphere. dXb
dXb Further highlights include the classic arpeggiated dXb
dXb hookline at the heart of "Lost On The Way To DC10" dXb
dXb (prepared moments before a gig at the self same club) dXb
dXb and the urgent tribal stomps of "Klitkut" - another dXb
dXb track with Ibiza after hour origins. dXb
dXb dXb
dXb Dramatic changes of pressure abound throughout the dXb
dXb whole project, with Pierce making full use of the dXb
dXb audio spectrum as he painstakingly deconstructs and dXb
dXb reconstructs frequencies. Each sound is teased and dXb
dXb twisted in all manner of directions, (check out the dXb
dXb morphing acid line on "Golden") with particular dXb
dXb attention paid to the drum machine patterns that are dXb
dXb refreshingly free from the linear constraints of dXb
dXb standard techno. dXb
dXb As a result the sound seems to move forward like a dXb
dXb wall, constantly changing room size and shape, which dXb
dXb is why you'll be forgiven for sometimes finding a dXb
dXb door where the window should be. dXb
dXb Going astray can be a good thing, especially when you dXb
dXb end up finding a better way. dXb
