Smell the dry ice in the air. YouÆre on a dancefloor in London. Or is it Geneva?
The vocals dancing around your ears are from Argentina and the skippy, pulsating
techno behind it might as well be from Berlin. Or is that Detroit? The world is
a shrinking dancefloor thanks to tracks like "Que pasa Maria" the lead track on
the stylishly trippy next release from Souvenir. Handpicked by the labelÆs
spearheads, Tiefschwarz, this next release is another memento from the pairÆs
quest to bring you the most exciting new underground electronic dance music from
around the world. Que pasa MariaÆ began life from one of those all too common
8am moments familiar to every dancefloor around the world. The artists Mariano
Galussio and Ziggy Kinder met while Mariano was searching for the ingredients
for a spliff in a club. The pair became friends, made a series of tracks
together resulting in this double entendre inspired EP. The spanish lyrics are
all about the double meaning of "maria" which can mean a girl or the smelly
green stuff - (both sometimes all too hard to find at a party). The second track
"Bailamos" is a one way ticket to a lost-in-the-music moment on a meditteranean
club terrace. Sensual latin melodies swirl through percussion and a pulsing
bassline that underpins the track. ItÆs the kind of pan global melodic techno
thatÆs currently blissing out the sets of DJs like Luciano or Ricardo Villalobos
worldwide. Born in Poland, Ziggy Kinder grew up Germany and now lives in
Cologne. His first releases on Cologne based Ware label quickly earned a
reputation for his quirky style and unyielding dedication to delivering forward
thinking grooves and tomorrowÆs melodies and made him a key player on the
already crowded Cologne scene. Techno in 2007 is all about stylish, sexy
cosmopolitan beats and this next Souvenir is one to savour.
