As ever, the UK's finest house label NRK Sound Division delivers a
mouth-watering label compilation with more bounce to the ounce, and
an absolute bargain package for trainspotters and lovers of house
music alike.
"NRK Singles 5" gathers the most momentous tracks from the last 18
months and presents them on an unmixed CD. The compilation also shows
NRK's attention to artist development, and a keen ear for a killer
track.s
Ian Pooley has thrown some unadulterated funkiness back into the
house scene of late. His coloured vinyl trio-logy on NRK in the
Spring of 2002 set tongues wagging and dance-floors shuffling, and it
seemed that the acid house vibe has been single handedly revived by
Mr. Pooley. His tracks "Fly Shuffle", "Missing You", "Ready To Flow"
and "Quatro" are all represented here. Those still unfamiliar to the
Audio Soul Project name will no doubt have had their heads in the
sand for the last 18 months. NRK have led the ambitious project of
reconstructing the 2001 "Community" album, using a slew of first
class remix names including Francois K & Rob Rives, Chris Lum,
Joeski, Ricky Montanari, Rob Mello, Tony Thomas and Jamie Anderson.
Various cuts from these sessions are included on "NRK Singles 5".
Another artist dear to the hearts of NRK's schedules is Miguel Migs.
Miguel's penchant for reggae with a bass heavy production and ragga
toasting is evident on tracks like "Bump Selecta" whilst "Satisfied"
takes sweet harmonious vocals and racks them over another fine heavy
dub production. Jamie Anderson heads up the UK talent with "Rebel
Sound", taken from his debut 2001 LP "Blue Music", whilst also
lending his tech-house vision to Audio Soul Project's "Freefalling".
Rob Mello, another Brit on the block, tweaks his electrofunk buttons
on the remix of Rocket's "People", remixed in turn by ex-patriot and
now San Fran based DJ Jeno. Not forgetting the Italian duo of Ricky
Montanari & Davide Ruberto, or the absolutely gorgeous King Britt
remix of Q-Burns Abstract Message, Pete Heller's classy progressive
mixes of Louie Balo's "Guiding Light", and Peace Division's equally
fierce re-working of "El Amor", "NRK Singles 5" is absolutely
bursting with the finest international house music you will find
anywhere in the world.
As with previous NRK compilations, a free bonus mix CD is included on
the CD format of "NRK Singles 5", this time mixed by man of the
moment, Chris Lum. Chris found time to throw down a killer mix of NRK
titles, in between his hectic studio commitments at San Fran's
Moulton Studios, and slew of forthcoming releases on labels such as
Hooj, Tango, Siesta and Defected.
