I found some sleeves at home and figured somebody might like a copy!* First off, apologies for this release
taking some time to come out. As you'll probably be aware there have been a few hiccups for me over the
last few months and what with prioritizing releases on Smallfish by other artists, it's taken a little while to
finally get this release out. So, now it's here and I ought to review it properly rather than just apologising!
Solitude originally started life as a 40 minute drone track but slowly mutated over time into 3 distinct tracks.
Splice begins the CD with an ultra-hypnotic slice of techno that's part dub, part Detroit and all about getting
locked into the groove. Muted chords, reverb and delay all work over a subtle 4/4 beat that rolls along in a
simple, effective arrangement. Then we move into the ambience with Solitude Part I, the remaining part of
the original drone track. Deep, flowing and strangely melodic, it drifts effortlessly for 20 minutes with a
gradual build at the beginning adding in shifting chords over the bass tone. Ethereal and mellow stuff
indeed. Solitude Part I actually uses elements of this track (although you'd probably be hard-pushed to tell)
but in a much more rhythmic way. Again, it's almost got a classic dub techno feel with an effected 909 hi
hat and clap and a very deep bass sound. It works on the chords and I suppose that's where it gives its
influences away to a large degree with a very Berlin texture to the repeating stab. It's another deep track
with a long arrangement that doesn't need to do a great deal... it just flows along. Great to be able to put out
another Remote_ CD and I'd obviously recommend checking it out!
