On the latest Nu Breed Series , the UK's
Danny Howells, who often plays all over the
place including John Digweed's Bedrock club,
mixes up two albums of dark funky house,
techno, and progressive. On the first cd,
Howells utilizes tracks from the likes of
16B, Echomen from the End, DJ Dan, Bellboy's
Vegas Soul, and Science Department. On the
second cd, Howells doesn't travel too far
off his beaten path with the opening track
coming from 16B again and with others from
Yoshitoshi's Lexicon Avenue, Nova Mute's
Luke Slater, Bushwacka! from the Oblong
imprint, and Mind the Bend from Jack Dangers
a.k.a. Meat Beat Manifesto. Although there
have been other good mix CDs available from
Howells, including a series entitled
Nocturnal Frequencies courtesy of Logic
Records, this is perhaps Howells best mix
project to date. Along with Lee Burridge and
Craig Richards, Danny Howells is definitely
one of the best DJs to come out of England
over the past few years. Nu-Breed is well
worth picking up.
