If you're into Basic Channel, t++, pole, shackleton, burial,
deepchord, mike huckaby, dynamo or the idea of any or all of the
above squashed into one reverberating package of killer techno
variations - this twelve is just required listening! MLZ has a
long and interwoven relationship with modern love, having long
supplied material as one half of pendle coven and nourished the
label with his vast collection of obscure and impossibly anonymous
hardcore jungle, techno, jazz and scandinavian metal records. He
has stepped in as the modern love label dj on almost too many
occasions to bring to mind and has long promised to head out on
his own, to give those hefty studio archives a good airing. "dark
days" has been a long time in the making and is, at long last,
available for public consumption. "M-brane" opens the twelve with
a perfect declaration of intent, taking in and re-building the
ringing, layered techno of chain reaction's substance, basic
channel's immense "radiance" and the endlessly padded bassline
stylings of shackleton's"blood on my hands" to come up with a
searing widescreen classic in 4/4 that just seems to build
forever. "Dark days" on the flip is an altogether more squashed
affair, the burning embers of peak-time dub-techno reconfigured
into a reverberating mass of bass splinters, towering delay and
fragmented percussion that sounds like pole, t++, monolake and
burial rolled into one. Truly shocking debut twelve - an absolute
MUST HAVE!
