| | began. This cd is a compilation of the early | |
| | Shut Up And Dance catalogue (1989 to 1992) | |
| | ranging from bleepy rave tracks to UK hip | |
| | hop to proto jungle. Can you spot the amen? | |

| | From small beginnings in Stoke Newington, | |
| | Shut Up & Dance Records formed in 1989 is now | |
| | one of the most potent forces on the UK dance | |
| | scene. After successful releases from the | |
| | group Shut Up & Dance, the label now boasts | |
| | 10 artists and two No 1 dance albums. | |
| | | |
| | While producing the majority of material for | |
| | the label, Shut Up & Dance have been very | |
| | successful as artists in their own right. | |
| | "ú10 To Get In" was their first major hit | |
| | followed by "ú20 To Get In" the remix of the | |
| | first - both top 60 hits. In July of that | |
| | year "Lamborghini/Change Soon Come" hit the | |
| | top 50 of the National charts. All the above | |
| | plus "Derek Went Mad/This Town Needs A | |
| | Sheriff" can be found on the debut album from | |
| | the group and the label. "Dance Before The | |
| | Police Come" was the No 1 Dance Album in the | |
| | UK for 2 weeks. Not to be found on that debut | |
| | album is the much sought after "Raps My | |
| | Occupation". | |
| | | |
| | The first major signing to the label were the | |
| | infamous Ragga Twins. Fusing the hardest | |
| | house with their ragga chat the Ragga Twins | |
| | had instant success with "Hooligan 69" and | |
| | the massive "Spliffhead" both top 50 hits. | |
| | The latter has become The Ragga Twins anthem; | |
| | from coast to coast you'll hear the cry | |
| | "Ragga Twins dere bout". The original mix of | |
| | the single "Wipe The Needle" is available on | |
| | this double LP set but not the Ragga Twins | |
| | debut album "Reggae Owes Me Money" which shot | |
| | to No 26 in the national album chart and No 1 | |
| | in the Dance Album charts. "Juggling", "The | |
| | Killing" and "18'' Speaker" can also be found | |
| | on "Reggae Owes Me Money" the most successful | |
| | release from the label. | |
| | | |
| | The unique vocal talents of the much | |
| | respected Nicolette add a very different | |
| | dimension to the label. Described once as | |
| | sounding like Billy Holiday on an acid trip, | |
| | Nicolette has so far had 2 major underground | |
| | hits "Single Minded People" and "Waking Up". | |
| | Brutal and totally manic, Rum & Black began | |
| | their career with the controversial "Fuck The | |
| | Legal Stations". Their next single "ESQ/ | |
| | Slaves" can be found on their punishing debut | |
| | album "Without Ice". | |

| | The dexterous gospel vocals of Ade and the | |
| | precocious indie derived rhymes of Codine are | |
| | also crammed into this cornucopia of original | |
| | beats. | |
