Hey hey û London's grid locked, the world nervously awaits the Bush Oil
dynastyÆs latest sortie, the Dance industryÆs on its arse - yep, 2003's
definitely starting to shape up!
But amongst the doom and gloom, amongst the ruins of some of dance musicÆs
longest standing clubs, labels and magazines, the music itself does what
it always has done - progress, mutate and evolve, swallowing up new
influences as it sheds remnants of the old. Some dance single sales may
have halved, but the quality stuff is rising to the surface again, often
still bumping to the four four beat, but replenished and refreshed by a years
worth of new sounds and vibes.
From the new wave clicks and space disco of Brooks, Nathan Drew Larsen and
Danmass, the 21st century P Funk of Chicken Lips and Sir Drew, from LRDÆs
take on the current NY / DFA sound to R÷yksoppÆs immaculate Electro-Pop and
Metro AreaÆs robo-soul, from Velcro FastenerÆs retro futurism, to Black
Strobes futuristic retroism, and with the likes of the now duly recognised
Ewan Pearson, Swayzak, Swag and Soul Mekanik all representing, 'Le Future
Le Funk' is a signpost marked 'this way forward' along what can seem a dark
and confused road at the moment. Probably.
Mixed by Ross Cale and Red Jerry.
