     Ripper's note: This is CD2 from a double CD pack included in
     Galactic Zoo Dossier #7, a freaky little 'zine about psych/garage
     stuff. I've packed the CDs as individual releases as each has its
     own name and theme.

     CD2 is "From The Ashes: Perfect Attainment Shall Be Modern Freaked
     Sounds" and is all-new. The Stooges reappear - or at least their
     sax player does, in the shape of Steve Mackay & The Radon
     Ensemble. There's a blamming Troggs cover band called The Trawgs
     featuring that ubiquitous San Francisco guy from The Coachwhips,
     and cosmic sludge from my new Bay Area favourites, Assemble Head
     In Sunburst Sound. Oh and a great strung-out woodland jam from
     Devendra Banhart (we're hearing good things about his new one,
     incidentally). -uncut.co.uk

     The From the ashes shall be set proves to be a stronger gathering
     of wired intelligence - featuring obvious crowd pleasers Davendra
     Banhart, Acid Mothers and the Charalambrides - sadly not together
     - how we wish - therefore no need to dwell on them a barking
     fuzzed out onslaught of the Troggs I can't control myself by the
     Trawgs - superbly trashed out and sounding more bargain basement
     than the Mummies while wiping the floor with most of the acts that
     appeared on that must have Groin Thunder tribute set from a few
     years back. We find it totally inconceivable that for all this
     time we've managed to some how stay in an absolute state of
     ignorance of Michael Yonkers - surely not. But kids we have -
     untouch is a demo from 2005 - a bent and buckled slab of white
     noise frenzy from an artist whose been trading guitar licks for
     the best part of 40 years plus. Those of you still feeling empty
     now that Gas Huffer and the Halo of Flies have ceased putting out
     hi-fi humping hysteria should make your first port of call to the
     mental as fook 'gasm kontroll by Vincent Black Shadow - we need
     these in our lives right now. Mind numbing free form psych jazz is
     the order of the day for Steve Mackay and the Radon Ensemble -
     fans of Pickled Egg's Now and Zukanican will lap this up, while
     Bicycle, Tricycle exact lovin spoonfuls of up the downstair era
     Porcupine Tree with the tripping remember me, fade (we will be
     checking these out further - believe you me) . Elsewhere there's
     the dizzily dainty baroque summer pop of Ed Askew - think Nick
     Nicely meets Momus and a positive shed load of other groovers drop
     outs and beatniks.
