What we're gonna do right now is go way back...
As impossible as it is to imagine in this era of microgenre,
rudderless dance journalism and poverty of imagination there was a
place on West 38th Street where for a period of time between 1988
and 1992 it all came together.
So many stories started here that we can't possibly list them all
but in the house of Mendez and Russell it was possible to find the
scenes not songs of the Burrell Bros, the dubby experimentation of
Konders, the jazzy excursions of Peter Daou and Smash, the deepest
garage of Musto, Simonelli and Bastone, the disco stylings of Joey
Negro, the breakbeat science of How & Little, Dee and Bones, the
techno roots of Beltram and the MAW blueprint under one roof and
often on one shelf of your local record shop (remember them?).
Howie How and Little Carlos on their 2nd Sound Vandal outing for Nu
Groove and if it isn't a slice of dancefloor perfection we don't
know what is or ever was. Side A has divine breakdowns creating
the tension over a tight disco loop, t. terry-worthy programming
and garage vocal samples you will recognise :) Side B is the
absolute essence of a deep cut.
