From Boomkat:
Has Surgeon ever produced a bad track? Easy question to answer really, but this unexpected remix for
The Black Dog's "Floods" has got to be his sickest work for a while and at long last finds our man giving an
airing to those long rumoured Dubstep influences. It's a track that's as robust as it gets - made up of a
threadbare metalic construction that has as much in common with Autechre as it does with Cyrus,
creating a gargantuan metallic klunk that's weighed down by a pure bass rumble that teeters on the brink of
distortion but never quite makes it - the kind of bass that's SO hard to get right. Surgeon is one of a handful
of producers who doesn't seem to need the same kind of periodic reinvention that plagues so many
electronic producers who have been around as long as he has - instead his sound has evolved organically
into a splintered genre-defying beast that's always 100% recognisable as his work despite the myriad
shifts. Its producers like T++, Andy Stott and Surgeon, operating at the intersection of a number of different
styles, that are making the most exciting electronic music right now - and Surgeon has here ended 2007
with possibly the most inventive and hard hitting dub variation you'll hear this year. Immense.
