| Humans have been cloned! Well, maybe not but if |
| this isn't the second coming of Geir Jenssen aka |
| Biosphere aka the man behind the coolest |
| (literally and figuratively) ambient music on |
| the planet, who is? Regardless of the answer to |
| this question, Guate Barlindhaug is the man |
| behind Aedena Cycle and fans and followers of |
| Geir's material should take note and easily warm |
| up to this rising polar star of the chilling |
| ambient groove. There is definitely always |
| something to say about a record that you can |
| listen to from start to finish and this is no |
| exception. Hence, there will be no details as |
| far as individual tracks go, as the overall |
| Albite (the Cycle's second full-length effort) |
| experience is 70+ minutes of utterly consitent |
| (not many dull moments whatsoever), surreal |
| atmospheric soundscapes. While some are |
| beatless, others are beat-driven, but all |
| contain exceptional, silky smooth -- at times |
| throbbing -- basslines that would make -- yep, |
| you guessed it -- even Geir Jenssen envious! I |
| would say most of this stuff rivals some of |
| Biosphere's best material from the early days |
| (circa Microgravity and Patashnik -- his latest, |
| Substrata, does not really compare). In fact, |
| that may the best way to descibe this material, |
| micropatashniks for the year 1997. Don't worry, |
| it's not going to sound like Biosphere vs. |
| T.Power or any other ambient-jungle outfit -- |
| all percussion (if any) is your standard |
| Biosphere 'click and pulse' (as opposed to drum |
| and bass), but I would have to say that the |
| Cycle moves best in slow gear. Ultimate |
| envelopment of your senses due to throbbing bass |
| and icey atmospherics is the hidden agenda |
| behind this mysteriously immaculate music. The |
| moods range from the intergalactic exploratory |
| (plodding through space, circa Delerium's |
| Spheres projects), to the cosmically clubby |
| (mostly Novelty Waves-ish techno with a few |
| loungy versions) to more of a local darkness |
| (shipyard clank) that only the Cold Meat |
| Industry camp could possibly conceive. While |
| there are not too many CMI-related distrubances, |
| they are present. Frankly, there are very few |
| moments that I am not listening to this music |
| and thinking -- Incredible! |
