Call it synchronicity. Call it fate. But in the mid-2000s, in
two different corners of the world, two girl DJ tag-team duos
arose, both with the same taste in raw underground bass.
Wierder still, the two sets of girls even looked kind of
similarûone tall blonde, one sassy brunette each. From New
York City came Syrup Girls, California transplants raised on
drum & bass, sweaty rock shows, and causing drunken
late-night mayhem in the streets of the LES. From Berlin came
Sick Girls, throwing middle fingers up to the minimal
techno-obsessed with broken breaks and in-your-face style.
And then came Tigerbeat 6 don Kid 606, who decided to pair
these low-end dopplegang-girls together at last for Violent
TurdÆs genre-busting Shotgun Wedding series.
On side one of Vol. 8, Syrup Girls go balls out in Brooklyn,
busting out the gate with down ænÆ dirty breaks (favela funk,
rave jams, Bmore jawns) before dropping nasty punk-house and
closing out with a fire fight between the Dirty South and
spooky dubstep bangers. Yowch! On the ôflip,ö Sick Girls
bring on the revolution, Berlin-style, heat-fusing raw
Nintendo grime (Shystie, Sticky, Drop The Lime) with club rap
stormers and super surprises, all edited, reworked, chopped
and screwed to sweet death in the pairÆs Kreuzberg
laboratories. Fire!

Jay-Oh and A.D. played together for the first time in August
2004, dropping leftfield hits from their personal record
collections in the bar area of BerlinÆs infamous Tresor club.
They realized a common love of reggaeton and IDM, UK bass and
dirty hip-hop, and it was totally sick. Soon after, the Sick
Girls were born, with a mission to GermanyÆs techno-obsessed
masses that broken beats, maximum bass, and MC mayhem can
create just as much pumping energy on the dancefloor as the
usual 4x4 rave. In 2005, the duoûwho have years of experience
working behind-the-scenes in the Berlin club bizûstarted the
groundbreaking Revolution No. 5 party (held at WMF and Club
103), which has hosted such legendary antics as Deichkind
throwing sofas into the crowd, 17-year-old East London
schoolkids spitting dirty grime all over the place, and
half-naked Brazilian MCs shouting at the audience. They are
