- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- -
Formed from the dust of countless bands with contrasting styles, the Colonies
collective represents a love of dynamics, dissonance and melody. Christian
Powers and Travis Shumate have been writing songs together since 1999 and
formed Colonies in 2006 with Adrian Centoni and Adam Meeks with a desire to
make honest and sincere music.
The members of Colonies create music that balances sweeping soundscapes, rich
textures and smooth melodies. Working in a collaborative process allows each
musician to bring a fresh, outsider perspective to each song. Meeks and
Centoni provide the rhythmic foundation while Powers and Shumate create
movement and space with a linear approach to composition.
With the release of Sleep Patterns, Colonies has created a series of songs
that deal with geography and history as much as they deal with relationships.
Berlin, Argentina and the mountains of Idaho set the stage for stories that
deal with the familiar themes of love, war and change.
There was a discordant hum of human voices! There was a loud blast as of many
trumpets! There was a harsh grating as of a thousand thunders! The fiery
walls rushed back! An outstretched arm caught my own as I fell, fainting,
into the abyss.
