In 2005, shortly after the demise of their former band "The Ice
Cream Sandwiches," Simon, Court, Bret and Nolan began to record a
collection of songs that Simon and Court had written while in The
'Sandwiches. Jake and Paul were soon recruited to round out the
sextet and expand the sound. The band was called "Shhh." The band
began recording in several short spurts between September 2005 and
February 2006. Recordings took place at the Farmhouse in Lawrence,
KS which was Simon's current residence as well. The resulting
efforts were culminated in the release of the bands debut album,
"Leviathan," in April 2006. The band played a smattering of shows
in the Northwest Kansas area over the course of the rest of the
year. In the beginning of 2007, Nolan departed to study abroad in
Australia. Court shifted from his usual post at the guitar to fill
the void behind the drum kit. With the end of collegiate careers
in sight for several of the band members, they started to make
plans to move to Chicago, IL. Paul, with more school left to
attend to in Kansas, stepped out of the band and was replaced by
Joseph. The new lineup started work on a four song EP over the
course of the summer of 2007. The songs were all recorded in
Manhattan, KS and featured a wide variety of guests lending their
talents to the songs in the form of violin, trumpet, rhodes,
vocals and drums. The band moved to Chicago, IL in July of 2007
where they would finish recording the EP, titled "Kingdom Phylum."
This soon became the band's new moniker and in mid August they set
out for the East coast to play a short tour in support of the new
recording.
Currently, the band is still residing in Chicago and working on
recording a new set of songs for release as soon as possible, with
plans to play shows in Chicago and the surrounding areas.
Thanks to eg0maniac for yet another rip, once again keeping the KS
scene in check.
