"The Hooligans have surpassed themselves again."
Carl Loben DJ Mag
Atomic Hooligan smash back through the door with an
album that not only rivals their first, but blows
it out the water. Following 2005's classic, award
winning "You Are Here", The lads toured the world
with their live band and branded their heavy sound
into the collective consciousness of music lovers
from continent to continent.
Being chosen to champion the Breaks sound live at
Breakspoll/ Fabric with their 9 piece live band (AH
will be aired LIVE on RADIO1) is testament to their
passion and ability. They fuse electro/ guitar/
indie/ rock/ bass and breaks successfully; truly
trying to push the sound further than simply
breaks.
Sex, Drugs & Balh Blah Blah is a step beyond their
last album, with new vocalists, new live
instrumentation, and a new outlook on music, the
Hooligans have outdone themselves again.
Their sophomore album see's the return of long time
Hooligan collaborator, Justine Berry of Hey
Gravity, along with new vocalist to the camp &
future superstar, Elmo Jones of the Furies. The
lads have also employed a couple of Hip Hop legends
from both sides of the Atlantic. DJ Premier
collaborator, Afu Ra opens the album with an
explosive performance to set the mood, then later
on in the set, UK don Genasis Elijah, rips it up
like only this rhyme animal can. The album also
features Playboy -UK Cyber girl of the Year Alex
Sim-Wise, turning in a trashy electro style chant
for the masses.
The Hooligans have gone deeper with their
production on this set. They pulled in string
arranger Jote Osahn , well known for her work with
the Gorillaz & Root Manuva, along with an entire
brass section to round their sound out.
And if that wasn't enough Christin Ward (DC Comics)
has whipped up some of his amazing, twisted artwork
to package the whole thing.
Dirty - what a fucking opening tune this is.
possibly the coolest intro i've ever heard in my
life opens it
up with this beastie boys sample (of which i can't
remember the name of the tune - it's from paul's
boutique),
and some of the sickest actual music i've ever
heard. fuck it, this tune is a money hip hoppy
tune.
I Don't Care - the 2nd single from the album. it's
like electro rock and roll glam breakbeat.
Who's Ya Daddy Now? - freaking sick ass downtempo
number with a real jazz interlude, and this main
groove that is like crystal method on steroids.
Papercuts - You already know this tune. it's like
surf rave. ace tune.
Inside the Mind - think old way out west vs. the
orb. if you imagined it right, you have this.
Do Me In - a radio single if there was one. i can
hear this on rock radio.
Spread Good Vibes - wow, this is an opening tune
and a half. wow. it's some stompy ass breaky house
with really cool flows over top of it.
Safeguard - Some rocky chemical influenced breaks.
kinda middle-easterny as well. man, are more
people making this slower stuff? i would play all
shit like this if it was more prevalent. badass
shit.
Weed - Obviously.
Blah Blah Blah - ha. this tune is cool. i can hear
this tune on the radio too. more breaky than the
other
radio one, but definitely a tune girls will love.
like the jazzy elements during parts.
String Vest - an instrumental piece featuring you
guessed it - strings. Watch out hybrid, atomic
hooligan is coming to get you.
Electro Aint Electro - My favorite tune on this cd
hands down. stompy big as fuck electro house with
this chick singing that electro aint electro no
more. this is ball bustingly sick.
Thief - a chick having an orgasm turns into in your
face super rock and roll breaks. more orgasms in
songs please.
Too Late to be Afraid - electro trance is the new
black.s
