As a co-founding member of Shinkoyo records, Ohio-bred/Brooklyn-based Matt
Mehlan retains that labelÆs core ideals of collaboration, experimentation, and
unpredictability with his Skeletons project. Beginning in Oberlin, Ohio as a
solo act with help from an eclectic cast of collaborators (classically-trained
trombonists, punk rock drummers, a junkyard boy's choir), Skeletons has now
settled comfortably into its adult body, having established a full-time band
[The Kings of All Cities] and an alliance with Ghostly. In addition to
appearances at the 2004 CMJ and 2005 SXSW festivals, the group has lent live
support to TV On The Radio, Animal Collective, Man Man, The Unicorns, Jackie O'
Motherfucker, and others. Skeletons & The Girl-Faced Boys debuted on Ghostly
with the album "Git" in 2005, earning comparisons to acts as diverse as Can,
Prince, Sonic Youth and Boyz II Men. The band (as it is currently known) issued
the limited gray vinyl LUCAS LP via Shinkoyo on Halloween 2006, with a
subsequent spring CD release on Ghostly.
