If you ask any of The Wannabe Hasbeens to describe their take on the music they
perform, they'll offer up a simple explanation; "Dumb rock for smart people."
It's not overly complicated, and their debut EP, Former Trans Future Volume I,
frames up what The Wannabe Hasbeens are all about - hooky rock riffs, pop
sensibilities, and humorous bittersweet lyrics that remind listeners that being
gutsy and loud is still a lot of fun. Fronted by guitarist Christopher Heille,
The Wannabe Hasbeens' hard-working live performances won awards and audiences in
their hometown, Minneapolis. The muscle-car rhythm section of Derek Ritchison
(bass) and Gary Spencer (drums) drop the pedal to the floor the instant the
light turns green. Recent addition to the crew, former frontman/guitarist for
the disbanded Twin Cities band Castle Vs. Castle - Mo - is adding spark to this
combustible chemistry. You can ask about influences and the usual suspects are
mentioned, but the Wannabes draw on inspiration from bands like The Who, Cheap
Trick, The Clash, U2, and Weezer to craft a familiar yet unpredictable noise
