Release Notes:
Los Angeles based sleaze rock crew Faster Pussycat were founded in 1987 by Taime
Downe who's also known as founder/frontman of The Newlydeads and former member
of Martin Atkins' band Pigface. Faster Pussycat managed to gain a great succes
in the late 80's, mainly with their albums "Faster Pussycat" (1987) and the gold
album "Wake Me When It's Over" (1988), and via touring with bands such as Guns
N'Roses, Kiss, Poison, Mot÷rhead etc.. After a long hiatus (the band broke up in
1993), the boys are now back with their first studio album in 14 years.
One thing attracts attention right from the start - the band's still maintaining
their trade mark of a magnificently raunchy and fiery soundscape.
A mix is coming on the scene that in a well done manner centers dirty chiming,
snotty rock, punky esprit, fervid glam rock'n'roll, but also a slight industrial
fragrance.
Faster Pussycat aka Taime (vox, guitar, pro- gramming), Danny Nordahl (bass,
vox), Xristian Simon (guitar, vox), and Chad Stewart (drums, vox) manage to keep
up their elements and songwriting from back then but transform it into a
dressed-up amalgam with a modern spirit which is accompanied by a juicy
production.
The songs are lively, furious, loud and rebellious all the way through, colored
with big singalong-melodies and Taimes distinctive vocals. Tracks like the
opening "Number 1 With A Bullet", the sleazy "Gotta Love It", the decadent "Sex
Drugs & Rock-N-Roll" with its heavy character and guitar solo part, the catchy
"Disintegrate" (including Backyard Babies' Dregen as guest guitarist), the pace
restrained but however kickin' "Porn Star" with its notable, cruddy acoustic
guitar splinters and sex talk by guests Chloe and Plenty Uptopp, and the
pulsating sleaze-metal rocket "The Power & The Glory Hole" with its
stadium-ready chorus are the perfect companies for a rollicking, excessive
party.
The very groovy'n'cool cover of Nancy Sinatra's classic tune äThese Boots Are
Made For Walkingô is the right piece for driving through the desert at midnight
and turn the music on damned loud (!), and also the cover of Betty Blowtorch's
"Shut Up & Fuck" brings a good portion of adrenaline and passion on the table.
The disc ends with "Bye Bye Bianca" which is a dedication to Bianca Halsted who
died in 2001. Deep, Bauhaus reminding guitars alongside shrill guitars, a
loop-driven rhythm and male vs. female spoken words endue this vibrant track.
This record should easily please the oldschool sleaze fan as well as the
industrial rock addict or the listener of stuff like Murderdolls and Wednesday
