Release Notes:

Kharma 45 may be about to take on the world, but the
Londonderry band still reckon there's no place like
home.

The dance rock four-piece, whose debut single
Where's Your Spirit Man is released this Monday, are
currently based in Liverpool after signing to top
record label Warner Brothers.

But according to lead singer Glenn Rosborough, their
strongest support is still to be found in and around
Derry and Strabane - where all the band members hail
from.

"I do miss Derry, but it's always great to come
back. You just miss all your mates and the general
vibe," he said.

"We moved to Liverpool because it's easier for us to
get around. If we have a meeting in London it's just
a three-hour train journey down and we all love
Liverpool too. It reminds us of home."

Glenn said it was always a surprise to the band to
see the crowd reaction in Northern Ireland.

"When you see the whole crowd really getting into
it, it's sort of overwhelming. You forget that
people are into it that much.

"When you come in to a gig it's always a real
surprise that people are going so mad for it."

"Mad for it" is an appropriate description for fans
of Kharma 45, as the band has been compared to
Mancunian rockers Oasis. Their influences also
include Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, Kasabian and
Muse.

"Obviously we're influenced by a lot of dance, but
we listen to a lot of really old stuff like Dylan,
Springsteen and Pink Floyd as well as new stuff like
Muse. Our iTunes are quite interesting."

The band first got together when Glenn and guitarist
Peter Doherty (no relation to his namesake) met on a
music course in 2005. The pair hooked up with
drummer Phil Curran and bassist Shane McDevitt and
Kharma 45 was born.

Their thumping beats and guitar-laced infectious
grooves caught the attention of numerous record
companies, but it was Warner Brothers who snapped
them up.

"We did a showcase in Auntie Annies in Belfast in
May last year and there were about 15 record
companies there," said Glenn.

"But we decided to go with Warner."

The band has already played several high profile
support slots with The Who, Kasabian and Faithless
and have several festival slots lined up this year
as well, including Glastonbury, O2 Wireless and
Reading.

They played Derry during the week and will take to
the stage in Strabane tonight. Then it's back to
Belfast on Sunday night for a concert at the
Limelight.

And following the single release on Monday, the band
also plan to release their debut album of "big huge
sounds" some time in the late summer.

Glenn said: "After these gigs we've got the single
coming out, which should be fun. Everything coming
back to us is pretty positive. Everyone seems to be
getting onto it and local radio stations in the UK
are loving it, so we've got big support."
