Release Notes:
The second album from The Silent League is a labour
of love and a thing of beauty. Fronted by former
Mercury Rev member Justin Russo, The Silent League
release their new album on Something Under
Construction on June 18th
With his 8 piece band Russo creates driving
orchestral pop. Surrounded by calling guitars and
basking in warm brass arrangements, RussoÆs delicate
and yet often epic songs proudly bare their pop-rock
sensibility. Songs to swing to, songs to sing to,
songs to raise a smile toà Of Stars & Other
Somebodies is a feast of ambitious summertime pop
rock, soft rock at heart and proud of it.
Mixed by Charlie Francis (REM, Wilco) the bands
natural production and spacious arrangements offer
nods to Hunky Dory era Bowie, Flaming Lips, ELO,
Lambchop and Talk Talk.
Despite the critical acclaim of their debut, this
album feels like the first collection that truly
represents the glorious live impact of this 8 piece
line-up. And with members of the band working
elsewhere with Arcade Fire, Feist, TV On The Radio
and Beirut, it is unsurprising that The Silent
League have a unique gift for expansive pop songs of
immediate depth and sophistication.
Of Stars & Other Somebodies has the instantly
timeless quality of a great album; lead single
æAeroplanesÆ feels as though it has forever resided
in the subconscious, æBefore You StartedÆ reaches
out like an old friend and æKings & QueensÆ is
prophetic manifesto anthem.
With the album released in the UK on June 18, æthe
leagueÆ will take their sizeable show on the road in
July, coinciding with the single Aeroplanes and its
stunning animated video.
Festival dates include: Latitude, Truck, Indian
Summer in Glasgow and Fflam in Swansea.
