███▓ Maryland resident, Szymon Tankiewicz, Submerged ▓█
███▓ is a dark ambient tour de force. Visually and ▓█
███▓ sonically enveloping, this is an album of space ▓█
███▓ and texture, slowly revealing a psychoactive ▓█
███▓ soundscape of majestic, arcing timbres, ▓█
███▓ circadian buzzes, and expansive drones. Heavy, ▓█
███▓ and cosmically weighty in the beginning, ▓█

███▓ opening paragraph above. A silence born out of ▓█
███▓ respect for one of the great masterpieces of ▓█
███▓ Dark Ambience that IÆve just experienced. Never ▓█
███▓ has a vacant space expressed my viewpoint so ▓█
███▓ succinctly in such a way before. ▓█

███▓ æPhaenonÆ is the debut, quite scary when you ▓█
███▓ think what an achievement this recording is, ▓█
███▓ from Polish artist Szymon Tankiewicz. Szymon ▓█
███▓ currently lives in the USAàbut that is neither ▓█
███▓ here nor thereàand the recording is one long ▓█
███▓ and hazy track that stretches the imagination ▓█
███▓ for over an hour. There hasnÆt been a starker / ▓█
███▓ blacker Dark Ambient release for many a long ▓█
███▓ time. Pitching itself into the sparse empty ▓█
███▓ spatial scene, you could view it as a mirror to ▓█
███▓ the cosmos if you so want, thereÆs a feeling of ▓█
███▓ total isolation and utter bleakness surrounding ▓█
███▓ the enticing eclectic aural landscape drawn by ▓█
███▓ the composer. The harsh veneer that dominates ▓█
███▓ throughout adding to the effect that you are ▓█
███▓ being made privy to sights and sounds never ▓█
███▓ experienced by anyone ever before. The long ▓█
███▓ drawn out drones that are employed, coupled ▓█
███▓ with static rumblings and all manner of ▓█
███▓ startling electronic effects, give the music an ▓█
███▓ inherent intensity and uncertainty as to where ▓█
███▓ the music will lead from each moment to the ▓█
███▓ next. This illusion that the drifting radiances ▓█
███▓ heard are not only beautiful but destructive at ▓█
███▓ the same time are kept firmly in the forefront. ▓█
███▓ Like a piece of debris floating along not ▓█
███▓ knowing if it will continue its journey ▓█
███▓ uninterrupted or collide with forces unknown. ▓█
███▓ The music reminding me of those great lines of ▓█
███▓ dialogue from Bladerunner spoken by Batty near ▓█
███▓ the endàæI've seen things you people wouldn't ▓█
███▓ believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder ▓█
███▓ of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark ▓█
███▓ near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments ▓█
███▓ will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time ▓█
███▓ to dieÆ. This evoking of images is the strong ▓█
███▓ point of æPhaenonÆàand the way it slowly fades ▓█
███▓ and suddenly ends is akin to the final whisper ▓█
███▓ of breath expelled from a body. This is an ▓█
███▓ aural experience that will blow you away with ▓█
███▓ its majestic composition. ▓█

███▓ Phenomenalàwhich in my book is where this ▓█
███▓ absolutely stunning piece of music will forever ▓█
███▓ be seen as and remain. The sheer scope and ▓█
███▓ vivacity of the music a truly memorable ▓█
███▓ experience that lingers long, long after the ▓█
███▓ music has stopped playing. In many ways I fear ▓█
███▓ for Szymon. By releasing such a wonderful and ▓█
███▓ thought provoking debut he now has the ▓█
███▓ unenviable task of trying to, if not better, ▓█
███▓ then at least match this Dark Ambient opus. I ▓█
