Release Notes:
Monday 30th July sees the release of The Bluetones,
The Early /Garage Years, a collection of 10 songs
recorded before the band signed their first record
deal. Featuring æhome-madeÆ and studio demos, the
album is a must for any Bluetones aficionado.
"These are the very first recordings we made,ö says
drummer Eds Chesters. "Some were recorded in the
through-lounge of a semi on the Brabazon Road
estate, Heston, Middlesex. The others were recorded
in various teeny studios around London, paid for by
record company big-wigs ready to nurture (and one
day exploit) the burgeoning talents of four
fledgling song-makers.
"These old demos have been salvaged using
up-to-the-minute studio jiggery-pokery from some old
cassettes Adam found in a box when he moved house
recently. We felt compelled, having listened to
them, to share them with you all/both. I think
youÆll agree they provide concrete proof that we
were the best band in Hounslow, if not the world, in
1994.
"The flurry of excitable chat in the pubs of Camden
and Kentish Town that precipitated these recordings,
coupled with a fluky good gig at the Water Rats,
Kings Cross, resulted in us trapping a major record
company into a contract that made us dollar
millionaires in Mexico. With so much at stake they
had to spend big on recording and promoting a real
record, and that pressure, I think, permeates
throughout our debut æExpecting To FlyÆ.
"So here it is - the sound of four layabouts with an
ear for a tune and some romantic notion about not
having to work for a living."
