^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The Casual Lean emerged from a basement back east, the year was 2003 and each
member had just moved to the centralized location in Massachusetts of. Justin
(vocals) had convinced his parents to let the boys develop the charged yet
melodic rock 'n roll and soon The Casual Lean started homing in on a sound
that would gain them much buzz in subsequent years.
They consisted of the remaining band members of a local favorite called
Heaven & Breakfast who toured the east coast and Midwest in their heyday,
building a dense and loyal following from Pennsylvania to Florida and beyond.
After calling it quits, Justin and Chris wanted to begin a new project and
drummer Matt had contacted his longtime childhood friend Jesse to do the same
thing, separately. Eventually both paired musicians would learn of each
other's projects and combine forces. Jesse moved back to Massachusetts and
Worcester local metal hero Brian Davitt joined to round out this motley crew.
They wore the track "Bye Bye Pilot," which was the first whole song written
by The Casual Lean as a cohesive entity at this point. The band considers
this to be the main stepping point in their sound as well as in "Swears."
After spellbinding audiences with similarly emphatic live performances in
Boston, Worcester, Providence, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and beyond
with bands such as TV on the Radio, Say Anything, Taylor Hawkins and the Coat
Tail Riders, Men Women and Children amongst many others, the buzz around The
Casual Lean was palpable.
In April of 2005 they were dubbed Alternative Press' "Unsigned Band of the
Month" (when AP only chose one band each month) and soon a contract was on
the table with an independent powerhouse to record their first full-length
record "Swears." After 5 months of negotiations both the band and the label
decided that it was in their best interests to pass on the offer. The Casual
Lean was confident that with hard work and dedication, a label with the right
resources, staff and outlook would come along.
Despite the fact that the casual lean did not sign at that point, they were
still included in the Bob Dylan tribute release entitled "Pauper's Peasants,
Princes, and Kings: The Songs of Bob Dylan," with their rendition of Dylan's
cult classic "Sara."
In 2006 The Casual Lean graced the pages of Alternative Press once again,
this time as one of their "Bands You Need to Know About in 2006." With that,
The Casual Lean continued to tour, tour, tour.
After the final touches on "Swears" were made, a label came along that
exceeded The Casual Lean's expectations in terms of dedication,
communication, resources and mission. Glen Schwartz, director of A&R of
Orange Peal Records, signed The Casual Lean in early 2007. "Swears" will be
out in July of 2007.
