| | Muggelheim is located on the very south-east | |
| | of Berlin, too far out for the metropolitan | |
| | hype. With lots of woods and stretches of | |
| | water and without factories, Muggelheim is an | |
| | idyllic place. It's a good area of high | |
| | recreational value, providing the right | |
| | composure for composing Drum'n'Bass music of | |
| | the future. These are the green lungs of | |
| | Berlin. You're looking at a long drawn-out | |
| | plot of land. Towards the head, you will see | |
| | a small house with a flat roof, like a cosy | |
| | bungalow built for vacation. Occasionally, a | |
| | neighbour complains behind his fence, feeling | |
| | uncomfortable when the bass drops. A new | |
| | power line was installed the other day to | |
| | provide the studio monitors with nuff juice. | |
| | Two wild boars run between forty feet firs, | |
| | while the postman waits at the gate, a slim | |
| | packet in his hands. Addressee: Alexander | |
| | Zwingenberger. Content: rare as fuck | |
| | state-side Funk. "I listen to a lot of Jazz | |
| | and vintage Funk, but also Old School Hip | |
| | Hop. I try to carry this vibe into | |
| | Drum'n'Bass music," says Alex, better known | |
| | among heads as Young Ax. "Back in the days I | |
| | was fascinated by breaking down and cutting | |
| | the music. Then, when I was on the road with | |
| | "No Solo", there was just Hip Hop for me. | |
| | When I was eleven, I was watching "Beat | |
| | Street" and it stuck. This easy way of | |
| | performing music, partying, dancing - similar | |
| | to Drum'n'Bass today". Young Ax has had vinyl | |
| | releases on Santorin, Brand:Nu, Critical, | |
| | beatalistics and Vibez, contributed to | |
| | compilations for Annie Mac, "Ambassadors" and | |
| | "High Vitality" and was featured on the BBC's | |
| | Grooverider, Annie Mac and Zane Lowe shows. | |
| | Now we are proud to present his debut album, | |
| | an extensive showcase of Young Ax' material. | |
| | | |
| | "I definitely don't like predictable tracks, | |
| | based on loops and stuff. I want something to | |
| | happen during the tune. It's like a live show | |
| | where someone is playing a wrong note". In | |
| | that respect, Young Ax teams up with composer | |
| | and pianist Sebastian "Mason" Maassen, who | |
| | adds some Fender Rhodes improvisations. The | |
| | two are currently working on their joint | |
| | "Electronic Jazz" project. | |
| | | |
| | There is no place for cold electronic sounds | |
| | on these lively and complex eleven tracks. At | |
| | the same time, "Higher Ground" does not need | |
| | one vocal track. This is just 100% pure Young | |
| | Ax in essence: bridging the gap between | |
| | musical ambition and rocking the dancehall. | |

| | The tracks on this CD are faded into each | |
| | other using effects and samples. But they are | |
| | the full-length tracks and this is the album, | |
| | not the mixed compilation. Thus I decided to | |
| | go with separate tracks. | |
