Given that MMM's classic "Donna" 12" truly has an almost mythical status in this office, and that
Soundhack is an artist we absolutely revere, you can sort of get a measure of just how excited we were to
learn of this super special release from the Hardwax camp. Of all of the projects Erik Wiegand (aka
Errorsmith) has been involved in, MMM (a collaboration with the elusive Fiedel) ranks as the most populist
and hard hitting, and given that the project was last seen in active duty all the way back in 2000, some of
us were beginning to wonder whether we'd ever see another twelve carrying the legendary hand-stamped
insignia. It's hard to tell if the two tracks here are new or freshly extracted from the archives (this is a 10
year Anniversary release after all), but the joyful blend of discoid, Italo and electroid influences is handled
here with the kind of funk and immense attention to detail these guys are seemingly able to produce with
their eyes shut. Needless to say - they're bloody good. But the real cream is over on the Soundhack side,
and any of you who have followed Frank Timm's work over the last decade will have an idea of JUST how
essential anything this guy touches is. His unique EDIT style has been copied and imitated a thousand
times by more name DJ's and producers we could possibly list here, and his seemingly untouchable skills
have made him something like the DJ's DJ - a producer who has always carved his own path without any
interest in whatever trends happen to dictate whatever everyone else follows. In any case, his two new
tracks here "Devils Run" and "Rodeo" are absolutely immense, the first being a classic disco-funk refit in
staggered 4/4, the second a more metallic variation that's flanged out and utterly indispensable. Hardwax
really are on fire at the moment, and its highly unlikely that we'll be able to get many more of these, so all
we can say to you discerning MMM/Soundhack disciples out there is - ACT FAST! Awesome.
