Volcanic Tongue Tip of the Tongue
Brand new Japan-only studio album from this wildly disobedient
Japanese guitar/drums aktion unit. This new release
sacrifices a little of the cartoon adrenalin of the early
fully-punked sides for something that is even more rewarding,
with long jammed songs that combine excellent repeato-riff
monoliths ala your favourite lumbering kraut/psych European
zoners with vocal chants, bells, reeds and flutes, mantric
fourth world constructs that launch devotional ritual forms to
the moon with escalating blurs of guitar and extended, almost
Sonic Youth-esque open-ended free-forms that are very
psychedelic. Some of the most beautiful sections have a
heavenly gamelan quality to them that almost resembles a hi-fi
take on Vodka Soap's endlessly refracted percussion reveries
and when they swoon from that into what sounds like the most
gorgeous Cosmic Couriers-style devotional dream rock it's all
you can do to keep from creasing. The whole album consist of
one long performance, conveniently coded into 7 tracks, and it
makes for the most impressive and fully-realised work from
this pair to date. Comes in specially moulded digipaks with
obi strip. Totally fantastic and highly recommended.
