We could be hypnotized by a listen exploring obsession or
contemplation.
We could mention influences and backgrounds as it is use to be for
a newcomer.
So we would go close to Amon Tobin for the creative mental electro
and the crushed rhythms. We could easily mention David Shea for his
abstract and light experimentations. We could not avoid Kid Loco,
for his early dreamlike and sensual sounds.
And with the amazing creativity of Gong Gong, we couldn't forget
The Berg Sans Nipple and their crazy post rock, Spaceheads for the
fever delivered by the brass samples mixed with frenetic rhythms,
The Books for the acoustic DIY and ethereal atmospheres.
Obviously we'd end quickly in logical comparisons which won't say
anything about the specificity of Gong Gong. At least not as well
as ½ Mary's Spring ╗ their second album could express.
We could mention the complementary fusion of this unique duet. We
could emphasize that the starting point is a drum, bass and a
double-bass. But Gong Gong did complete this unusual approach with
machines, sequencers, samplers. So we could reveal some of their
secrets where the band allow his creativity to explore, knead, mix
thousands of sounds recorded live and sketch these 11 tracks.
We could try to put words on these melodies. Like on Mary's Spring,
name of the album but also the title of a key track which make the
transition between a rich and intense part of the album with a more
ingenuous and coloured wave.
We could mention the deep and melancholic ½ Colline ╗ or the
intoxicating development of ½ A pas feutrΘs ╗, connecting thread of
these new songs. We would revealed also the contribution of Fred
Nando Farrugua for the vocals and belched sounds. And also betrayed
the organic rhythms on ½ Birds in books ╗ recorded on knees and
cheeks.
We could announce Jean-Christophe and Thomas for the sonic and
happy sounds, the acoustic brainwaves, the electronic
experimentations. And also announce Laurent and Pierre the two
magicians behind the videos and the stage design.
We could say that Gong Gong is the new UFO landed on the FCOM
planet.
We could just suggest that the euphoria of this album is a great
addiction for you.
We could wait quietly the next creation and live tour expected this
spring.

GONG GONG originally released his first album ½ Laughing with the
moon ╗ in May 2005. Since this album was re-released by F Com in
October 2007 simultaneously with a new live creation at Scopitone
festival. Gong Gong was also selected as best newcomer at the
Printemps de Bourges and the Transmusicales in Rennes. A video
competition, a remix competition and more than 80 concert in France
and abroad have built the reputation of the band.
After Europe ( Lodon, Moscow, Geneva, Prague, Gdansk, Vienna or
Valencia, GONG GONG will be touring in South America, Asia, Africa
in 2008 with the support of Culture France.
2008 starts also with a brand new live creation at the Olympic
(Nantes) and the selection of the band by the FAIR as one of the 10
most talented band for the year.
