Release Notes:
Albert Beger,Was born in Turkey in 1959. Immigrated to Israel at
the age of 3. Since a young age, Albert was exposed to music and
at the beginning of the 70Æs he took on the guitar and became
involved with different Rock ensembles.
During those years he was influenced by Alternative music and
aspired to create his music along those lines. Soon after, Albert
discovered the range and shades of notes that a flute can produce
especially after he listen to Ian AndersonÆs music.
He started learning classical music with Uri Taplitz, who was the
first flute player with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. At the
same time, along side his classical flute studies, Albert started
showing an interest in Jazz music and playing it.
All along with endless curiosity exploring the improvisation music
that fascinated him.
In 1985 Albert join the first year of the contemporary music
school ôRimonö and at the same time started playing the tenor
saxophone which became his main instrument.
In a later stage he added the soprano saxophone as well. Shortly
after he became involved with the Jazz scene in Tel Aviv of those
years, following John Coltrain, Sony Rollins, Ornet Colman, Eric
Dolphy and moving on to the free style Jazz.
In 1988 Albert received a full tuition grant from Berkley College
in Boston, and went there with his wife Anat.
In Berkley Albert specialised in performing, took some advanced
courses in composition, and studied saxophone with the legendary
teacher Joe Viola, who greatly influenced AlbertÆs music on the
soprano sax. He also took some lessons with George Garzon.
During his stay in the US, Albert learned improvisation with
Charlie Banacos and was involved in many projects on both parts:
composing and performing with the best musicians of that time.
While living in Boston, Albert travelled a lot to New York and was
greatly influenced by the new trends in music that took place at
that time. All this time in America Albert felt the need to go
back home to Israel and fulfill himself in his homeland and so in
1991 Albert finally returned to Israel with his wife and first
son.
Since then, Albert is residing in Moshav Dor on the Mediterranean
costal line, a father to three offsprings, creating and performing
around the world in festivals and special projects.
Since his first album in 1995, he recorded six more albums while
cooperating with the best musicians in Israel and the rest of the
world. Musicians such as, Harold Robin, Asaf Sirkis, Gabriel
Meyer, John Bostock, Hagi Fershtman, Roman Kontzman, Hammid Drake,
William Parker, the composer Eric Shapira and the list goes on.
Today, Albert is continuously creating and updating and constantly
busy with new projects.
In addition, since 2003 he teaches modules in Jazz music courses
in the University of Haifa, guiding improvisation workshops for
teenagers, and teaches sax and flute.
AlbertÆs music is influenced from the world and environment around
him, while the Jazz music is the basis to all this. Furthermore,
he combines and is influenced from Classical and Ethnic music, and
tunes which come from Nature and the Soul.
