Silent Servant ( John Mendez aka Jasper ) is certainly no
stranger to the minimal scene. Back in 1997 when most of
the current crop of Berlin trendies were still in short
trousers, he was already pushing the sound with his
Cytrax & Delay labels
Silent Servant ( John Mendez aka Jasper ) is certainly no
stranger to the minimal scene. Back in 1997 when most of
the current crop of Berlin trendies were still in short
trousers, he was already pushing the sound with his
Cytrax & Delay labels, and he has continued to shape his
productions based upon the same ethics of space and
texture. Here, with his second release on the
increasingly popular Sandwell District label, he gives
two more tracks that have the crunch of techno at their
heart, but with a wash of dub to soften the machine edge
somewhat. Still, this release is altogether spikier and
harsher than much of the dub-techno scene - Mendez
evidently has a different definition of the term
