Following the distinctly aromatic passing away of charismatic vocalist Gravel,
My Alibi found themselves somewhat a-flummox: should they power on with the
unbridled emo-balladry that had served them so well on the East-Midlands
burgeoning pop circuit, or should they abandon the whimsy of vocal forever and
embrace the sheer decibel potential of a show unburdened by the need to hear the
mews of a semi-moustachioed geek?
The decision made, rehearsals commenced forthwith. A talented, beautiful,
gallant band of troubadours made their way into a Nottingham practice room and
began to forge sounds that would inspire, motivate and seduce an army of adoring
fans. As chance would have it, 16 miles along the A52, on that very same eve,
Messrs Styzer (Rhyll) [Axe 1], Christ (Vanilla) [Axe 2], DAngelo (Sato) [Head
Rim-Smith] and classically trained Dr. Swan [Axe sans treble] made their way
into the Hive studio in Derby and set about their task of bringing instrumental
math/tribal pop-prog into the mainstream or, failing that, sound-tracking
endless seconds of x-treme sports footage.
Three gigs down and Dr. Swan got the calling, children must be taught, and hes
the one to facilitate that learning with an intricate knowledge of Information &
Computer machinery. As fate would have it, en-route to the interview, a pitiful
wailing was heard emanating from an average-sized well. Peering down, Swan saw a
goliath of a man lying broken. In one last act of good-will towards his fellow
Sluts, the Doctor dangled his bass into the chasm and with all his might,
plucked from the depths the creature that would become his replacement. Styzer,
Christ & DAngelo would arrive back at the Hive the following afternoon to find
the dishevelled well dweller flaccid in the doorway. Draped around his neck, a
jet-black bass was accompanied by a hand-written note:
