           | One of the mellowest albums on Gilles Peterson's    |
           | Brownswood label -- but one of the most compelling  |
           | as well! The group's a quartet, led by pianist Elan |
           | Mehler -- and they work here in an instrumental     |
           | mode that's definitely more jazz than any thing     |
           | else -- but which also has a highly imagistic       |
           | quality, and almost a soundtrack feel at times.     |
           | Mehler's acoustic keys are mixed with Fender        |
           | Rhodes, tenor sax, and bass -- and without any      |
           | drums in the lineup, the whole album's got a soft,  |
           | bubbling sort of feel -- one that even has the      |
           | tenor sax held back more than usual, and employed   |
           | sort of as a gentle-toned generator of sounds. The  |
           | compositions are extremely haunting, and there's a  |
           | sophisticated brilliance here that almost reminds   |
           | us of a small combo take on work by Chris Bowden or |
           | Cinematic Orchestra. Titles include "The Pale 45s", |
           | "Muse Suite", "Head Trick", "Ruby D", "Christina's  |
           | Song", and "Little Last".                           |
