| Quite possibly the greatest album ever from |
| California congolero Johnny Blas -- a set that also |
| has him returning to saxophone in addition to |
| percussion, and which comes off with some of his |
| sharpest grooves ever! There's a definite lean |
| towards the jazzier side of the spectrum here -- |
| not just in Johnny's solos, but also in the overall |
| execution of the tunes -- which are all done in |
| tight, small combo formation. Latin roots still |
| show on some of the recordings, but there's also a |
| more contemporary California vibe too -- one that |
| sparkles with the warmth of the best Cubop/Ubiquity |
| approach to the music. Titles include "Oaklands |
| Mambo", "Lubi", "Barry Rogers", "Afro Rican", |
| "Indestructible Spirit", and "Boogaloo Blas". |
