           | The saxophonists Evan Parker, an instigator of      |
           | 1960s British free improvisation, and Roscoe        |
           | Mitchell, of the Art Ensemble of Chicago,           |
           | amalgamate teams of their usual collaborators as if |
           | "choosing sides for a game of street football".     |
           | When Mitchell takes the stage, he bows towards a    |
           | higher power, but Parker's 1970s trio, incorporated |
           | here, look as if they'd warm up with a pint and a   |
           | pie. Thirteen differently schooled musicians work   |
           | through the scored sections and strategic           |
           | suggestions of Parker's oblique composition. Denied |
           | their usual explosive gestures and heroic feats of  |
           | endurance, they instead sculpt precise              |
           | nano-improvisations, like shiny snail trails        |
           | scarring a frosty tundra.                           |
