██ Underbelly, a 13 x hour series, based on the book Leadbelly inside
██ australias underworld by the age journalists, John Silvester and andrew
██ rule, is the compelling dramatisation of Melbournes infamous gangland
██ killings that started in 1998 with the murder of alphonse gangitano. it will
██ explore the moral war between the gangs and the Purana task Force during the
██ rise and fall of notorious career criminal carl williams, who sought to be
██ king of Melbournes underworld and now languishes in prison. it is a
██ mini-series that examines the kaleidoscopic nature of loyalty, love, revenge
██ and pride when the normal and identifiable emotions of human attachment are

██ Level two Music had been waiting for an australian drama that was interested
██ in a fresh approach to itsÆ soundtrack. having read the underbelly synopsis
██ and researched the story, we knew this was the one. instead of trying to
██ explain musical terms and landscapes, we simply presented the Producers with
██ a cd of what we thought the show should sound like. Fortunately they agreed.

██ Upon reading the scripts, we knew the show was different and not following
██ any rules. Such was our attitude to the music and began a long research
██ process. we wanted to avoid the generic, assembly line approach and actually
██ expose the audience to new music. it wasnÆt about who was hot û but what
██ sounded hot. to us the easybeats, will always be hot and Sorry just seemed
██ the perfect juxtaposition to the insanity of what happened. Sometimes we
██ chose a track for its musical tone, other times it was the lyrics and more
██ often than not ûboth. it was as if gods My Pal was written for Lewis cane
██ and when we found i Monsters these are our children we knew it was perfect.
██ So much so it was used twice in pivotal scenes. essentially it was a
██ collaborative process between ourselves, the Producers, writers, directors
██ and editors. we all had a vision and it was a wonderful creative process
██ discovering it through the music.
