A typically accessible Trikont compilation, this overview of
the mariachi tradition manages to call upon various examples
of the eponymous musical genre, reaching back through the
ages to traditional Mexican-style mariachi bands right up to
modern day ambassadors like Calexico and err... Fatboy Slim?

Yeah. The Mighty Dub Katz' 'Magic Carpet Ride' makes an
unwelcome appearance. It's actually just on of several contributionsotes
from artists who dip into Latin American culture to season their music.

See also Linda Ronstadt, Toshinori Kondo and Soft Machine's Kevin
Ayers, who sets forth on a 'comedy' romp through 'Fake Mexican
Tourist Blues'.

You'd think The White Stripes' 'Conquest' might have made an
appearance here, but that omission is made up for somewhat by
appealing novelties like the mariachi/rap hybrid 'El Mariachi
Dehesperado' by Corsarios Del Tiempo, just one of many
curiosities on this varied disc.
