██ Ask any trance lover for his of her all-time favorite ██
██ top five, and they'll with no doubt mention a tune ██
██ from Cygnus X. The Frankfurt based duo have made a ██
██ handful timeless trance classics and are probaly best ██
██ known for their majestic tracks 'The Orange Theme' and ██
██ 'Superstrings'. Although Matthias Hoffman and Ralf ██
██ Hildenbeutel didn't release much new material under ██
██ the moniker of Cygnus X recently, their remake of the ██
██ classic 'Positron' - the theme song of the Trance ██
██ Energy 2003 - showed that the German act is still ██
██ alive and kicking. Another stunning sign of life is ██
██ the double CD 'Collected Works', which features a ██
██ collection of classics an the first CD and some ██
██ interesting remixes from internationally acclaimed ██
██ artists on the second CD "We're really pleased with ██
██ the release, and it's good to have hands on work ██
██ you've done many years ago. Especially after having ██
██ quite some success with the first two singles." ██

██ Founding members of the German Cygnus X are Metthias ██
██ Hoffman and Ralf Hildenbeutel. Matthias started his ██
██ career as a studio guitarist for e.g. Quincy Jones and ██
██ Sheila E., but changed his musical course after ██
██ hearing dance. With thecno-God Sven Vath and Heinz ██
██ Roth he formed the groundbreaking label Eye Q, which ██
██ is known as one of the first trance labels in the ██
██ world. As a producer he works under the names of A.C. ██
██ Boutsen, Brian Child, Vernon, Zyon, Odesee Of Noises, ██
██ Metal Master and of course Cygnus X. After leaving Eye ██
██ Q Matthias starts his own production company Schallbau ██
██ together with Steffan Brikze and Ralf Hildenbeutel. ██
██ Hildenbeutel is best known as the former studio ██
██ partner of Sven Vath - with who he made several dance ██
██ classics and artist albums - and the ambient/new ██
██ age/rock outfit Earth Nation. "Our collaboration is ██
██ not a combination of a DJ and Producer, because we're ██
██ both producers. in the studio we pretty much have the ██
██ same input role." ██

██ 'Collected Works' is at one hand a flashback to the ██
██ past, but at the other hand a very up to date ██
██ interpretation of that same past. Artist like der ██
██ Dritte Raum, Marco V, Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten ██
██ and Rank 1 each made a fresh sounding version of a ██
██ Cygnus X track. "The first CD contains the original ██
██ versions and represents a certain periode in our ██
██ career. Production-wise the tracks might sound a bit ██
██ dated, although the tracks are timeless. The remixes ██
██ sound more modern and are up to the current ██
██ production-standard." Matthias and Ralf rave the job ██
██ Rank 1 did a few years ago on 'Superstings": a ██
██ smashing trance-anthem. They say it was the perfect ██
██ example how great a remix can sound without being ██
██ disrespectful to the original. Many people rave the ██
██ originators who are responsible for two of the most ██
██ rememberable trance songs ever. "We made ██
██ 'Superstrings' and 'The Orange Theme' with the ██
██ intention to move the dancefloor and crowd. We wanted ██
██ to produce tracks with uplifting themes and strong ██
██ melodies." ██

██ The music from Cygnus X is often defined as classical- ██
██ orientated, timeless and emotional trance. The two ██
██ creative brainchild's say that their music has a strong ██
██ harmonic side, besides an energetic groove. It's not ██
██ sounding too underground, but it isn't sounding too ██
██ commercial either. Quality in that context is much more ██
██ important than quantity, which explains why Cygnus X ██
██ doesn't release new material each month. At some point ██
██ in our career we wanted to follow new musical paths, and ██
██ did some pop- and film music. We also had the feeling ██
██ that the dancescene wasn't challenging enough anymore. ██
██ The last few years we feel inspired again to make music ██
██ as Cygnus X. "Nevertheless Matthias and Ralf prefer to ██
██ concentrate on rare releases that stand out, and try to ██
██ avoid repeating themselves. the comming months the two ██
██ will working on new tunes, and one thing is for sure that ██
██ the Germans will rule the dance scene for many more years. ██
