Erik Vermeulen is mainly known as a sideman with various groups
and a top-class pianist. After his Icarus Consort project
('Into Pieces ', 1997), he steps into the recording limelight
with his piano trio with Sal La Rocca and Jan de Haas.
Vermeulen is a restless seeker, a perfectionist, a creative
spirit who expresses his feelings in a highly personal
vernacular. Apart from a few originals, he has opted for
standards - four of them Monk's. Vermeulen has this gift for
developing very fine lines and coming up with playful one-note
phrases. His choice of chords and rhythms are highly inventive
too, not to mention his truly appealing sonority
